O wyścigu
The Minamiuonuma Road Race, held in September in Minamiuonuma City, Niigata Prefecture, is part of the JBCF Road Championship. The main race is titled the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry Minister’s Flag, and it also includes women’s and youth championships. This means the weekend features multiple national-level category races, not just a single professional event. The J-Pro Tour race is in the PLATINUM category, the tour’s highest points tier, making it a significant competition for teams competing for season rankings.
The course is a 12 km circuit around Mikawa Dam and Lake Shagurenawa, with the J-Pro Tour field completing 12 laps for a total of 144 km. Race accounts depict over 100 riders spreading out along the lake, forming single file through successive turns, and breaking apart under pressure as chasing teams attempt to catch breakaway groups. The event also receives support from a Keirin assistance project and serves as a venue for riders from across Japan to compete, evaluate their training, and contribute to the development of competitive cycling.
