John Colter Run 2026

The race begins with a 50 caliber Hawkins black powder rifle shot. The course starts on a paved/gravel road before hitting rugged trails, reminiscent of the Lewis and Clark expedition. You'll navigate two railroad crossings, with BNSF stopping all trains at the first. The second crossing requires you to go under the railroad bridge and through water and mud to avoid disqualification; the mud can be knee deep and water up to waist deep. Look for trail markers like skulls, bones, and beer bottles. You'll also chase 'John Colter' – beat him to the 'Beaver Dam' for a special prize!
