The cycling program at the Kamloops 55+ BC Games is part of British Columbia’s annual multi-sport Games for those 55 and older, which rotate host cities yearly. In Kamloops, road cycling features three distinct events: a road race, a time trial, and a hill climb. This is a masters-level competition for older participants, not an open-age event, and it takes place alongside numerous other sports and activities within the Games.
The three formats assess different abilities: pack racing in the road race, individual speed against the clock in the time trial, and climbing strength in the hill climb. Participants travel from all 12 zones of British Columbia. The entire Games typically attract around 2,500 competitors, supported by over 1,200 volunteers. Cycling is integrated into a wider cycling presence at the Kamloops Games, which also includes mountain bike racing and the new addition of gravel bike racing.
