Tour de Gwent is an annual charity cycling event in South Wales, starting at Tiny Rebel Brewery in Newport. Riders choose from four distances: Bronze at 32 miles, Silver at 59 miles, Gold at 82 miles, and Platinum at 102 miles. It is organised by St David's Hospice Care, sponsored by Whitehead Building Services, and usually draws more than 450 cyclists. Helmets are required, riders follow the Highway Code, and the event runs on open roads, so participants are expected to look after themselves and respect pedestrians and other riders.
The shorter options suit families and steadier riders, with lead and sweeper cyclists supporting the family-friendly routes. The longer routes are built for cyclists who want a harder day out, including the climb of The Tumble, while other sections use places such as Sirhowy Valley Country Park. Spectators can stay around Newport or head to points along the route to cheer people through. The ride raises money for St David's Hospice Care, funding specialist palliative care, Hospice at Home nurses, a 15-bed in-patient unit in Malpas, two day hospices, family support, welfare rights advice, children's bereavement support through Unicorn, and complementary therapy clinics.
