The George Washington Patriot Run, held at George Washington’s Mount Vernon in Virginia, includes a 5K and a 10-mile race, both starting early in the morning. The 10-mile course utilizes a 5-mile stretch of the George Washington Memorial Parkway, offering runners both lanes between the GW Parkway Circle and W. Boulevard Drive before turning back. Lockheed Martin sponsors the event, which provides shorter and longer race options suitable for casual runners, trained distance runners, military and first responder entrants, and age-group competitors.
The course follows the south bank of the Potomac River along a parkway stretching from Mount Vernon toward McLean. The National Park Service allows the race to use this road, contributing to the event’s strong connection to its location. Finishers get a technical shirt and a medal featuring George Washington’s bust. Awards are presented to the overall winner, age divisions, and Military/First Responder categories. Race bibs also grant admission and a tour of the Mount Vernon mansion. The finish area includes music, food, concessions, and a beer for participants.
