O tomto závodu
Run Richmond 16.19 uses a distinct distance: 16.19 kilometers, or 10.1 miles, within Richmond, Virginia. This event offers running and walking options of 16.19K and 8K, with a 6.19K available in certain years, all taking place in September. The Djimon Hounsou Foundation organizes it alongside the Black History Museum & Cultural Center of Virginia, Sports Backers, and community collaborators, making the race a public history event as much as a road race.
The course traces a 400-plus-year progression through Black history, featuring historical markers and video content. Participants will learn about the Transatlantic Slave Trade, the American Civil War, the Jim Crow era, the Civil Rights Movement, and contemporary Black culture and community. The event welcomes all ages, abilities, and backgrounds, with affiliations including Black Girls Run's Sweat With Your Sole National Conference and Virginia 250. A named ascent, "The Hill We Climb," provides a distinct landmark on the more challenging section of the course.
