The Drei Talsperren Marathon takes place in Eibenstock, Germany, sending runners and mountain bikers through the Erzgebirge-Vogtland Nature Park on the third Saturday in September. The name originates from the three drinking-water dams along the route: Eibenstock, Carlsfeld, and Sosa. The event offers a 42.19 km marathon, a 23.2 km half marathon, and an 8.2 km short run, alongside bike races of 96.5 km, 50.7 km, and 30.0 km. Children can participate in races ranging from 1.2 km to 4 km, divided into four age groups.
The start and finish are located at the Bretschneider Sportstätte on Bühlstraße in Eibenstock, near the Badegärten Eibenstock. The longer routes present a challenge by German marathon standards, with terrain demanding enough for the event to be known as the Erzgebirgsmarathon. Over 1,000 athletes compete in the running and cycling events, while spectators attend a sports and family festival featuring exhibitors and entertainment. Aid stations and music are provided along the course, every finisher gets a medal, and winners receive certificates and medals from a special guest. An "anytime" version is available 24/7 for those who wish to complete the routes with a starter pass on a different day.
