Über dieses Rennen
RunThrough Trails Ascona-Locarno begins in Locarno, situated in the Swiss canton of Ticino on the shores of Lake Maggiore. The lakeside setting has proximity to palm trees and dramatic mountain backdrops. This trail running series offers a short 3 km option, a 24.3 km mountain race, and a long 41.5 km race that qualifies for the UTMB Index. The event takes place in late autumn; the short race is scheduled for the evening, with the longer races set for the following morning.
Participants start in the city center, proceeding through Piazza Grande before following the river towards the mountains. The long course ascends Pizzo Leone, reaching over 1600 m elevation. With approximately 2400 to 2486 m of ascent, it presents a challenging mountain day rather than a flat marathon. The 24.3 km race includes 1271 m of climbing, and even the 3 km race features 223 m of elevation gain. The field is international, though not excessively large; the long race typically sees around 120 finishers, with top positions often held by runners from Switzerland and neighboring countries.
