Euskal Herria Mendi Erronka is a 67-kilometer mountain race held in Leitza, Nafarroa, Spain, starting and finishing in the same town. It takes place on a Saturday in June, offering runners a long day in the hills with a start at 8:00 AM and a finish window until 9:00 PM. The course features 7,200 meters of accumulated elevation change, presenting a substantial mountain challenge rather than a quick trail run. This is the twelfth edition of the race, which is also part of the Euskal Herriko Kopa calendar.
The route crosses the mountains surrounding Leitza and the Mendialdea-Aralar region, covering Araitz-Betelu, Larraun-Lekunberri, and Leitzaldea. A 67-kilometer relay option is available for teams of two, requiring at least one woman per team. Demand is high; one edition sold out its 560 spots weeks in advance, with 516 individual runners and 68 relay teams starting that year. The organizers present EHME as more than just a sporting event, aiming to support Basque mountaineering and mountain running. The local identity, tied to its villages, greenway, customs, and people, contributes to the race's appeal.
