The Higuero Running Festival takes place in Aranda de Duero, Burgos, Spain, on an October afternoon, with 5 km and 10 km races beginning in the early evening. It is a popular running event rather than a single-distance road race, featuring youth categories, senior fields, veteran age groups from 35 upward, adapted races, and short children’s runs within the same programme.
The day begins with younger runners: under-8s compete over 450 m, under-10s over 600 m, under-12s over 1,050 m, and under-14 and under-16 runners over 1,550 m. The youngest children participate in “Chupetines” races over 150 m and 75 m, while adapted athletes can race either 450 m or 5,000 m. Over 2,500 athletes participate in the festival, including professional and semi-professional runners, hundreds of local popular runners, and well-supported adapted athletes, with spectators lining Aranda’s streets. The event, organized by Higuero, also includes a runner’s bag and a post-race DJ party, making the finish feel more like a town celebration than a quiet timing mat.
