Starting at the WHW sign by the A82 and Glen Nevis Road, this event feels less like a trail race and more like an extended internal debate. The WHW & Ben Nevis Race is categorized as "Ultra Endurance Trail Marathons," with a clear message: "GO THE DISTANCE," face a significant "physical and mental challenge," and prepare to "find your limits."
The course traverses some of Scotland's most scenic terrain before concluding in Milngavie. Despite the scenery, the course is demanding. Participants include novices, seasoned ultra competitors, walkers, and runners from diverse backgrounds. Aid stations are provided at nine points, with two drop bags available during the race and a finish bag at the end. A practical feature is the transport provided to Milngavie for anyone withdrawing, reflecting the event's nature: challenging enough to push you beyond your "comfort zone," yet structured to allow for honest decision-making.
