Über dieses Rennen
The Freedom Run is a 439.2 km point-to-point ultramarathon in Greece, scheduled from late May to early June between Messolonghi and Nafplio. It begins at the old Messolonghi railway engine service point and concludes at Syntagma Square in Nafplio, with a 99-hour overall schedule covering sea transport and a 98-hour limit for participants.
The route traces the historical march of the defenders of Messolonghi, who departed the besieged city towards Nafplio, then the capital of rebellious Greece. Runners navigate primarily paved asphalt roads, interspersed with some passable dirt sections. The designated route passes through locations such as Evinochori, Kotsocheri, and Paradeisi. The International Freedom Academy, with a committee from six historical and local associations, organizes the race under the auspices of the Municipality of the Sacred City of Messolonghi, receiving support from municipalities and associations along the course. The inaugural edition was rescheduled due to unconfirmed expected funding and incomplete road maintenance on sections of the route.
