The Kakolyri 1944 Sacrifice Run takes place in Taxiarchis, close to Kymi on Evia, connecting road racing with the village’s remembrance events. The schedule features a 21 km half marathon, a 5 km race, and a 1.2 km student run. The longer route was recently enhanced to become a challenging half marathon. The Municipality of Kymi-Aliveri and the Cultural Association of Taxiarchis are the organizers, with the Region of Central Greece providing patronage.
The race commemorates the Holocaust of the Martyred Village of Taxiarchis, and the student run is integrated into the memorial ceremony. Neighboring villages, including Pyrgos, Andronianoi, Giannides, Agios Vlasis, and Konistres, lend their support to the event, reflecting communities linked to the wartime events being honored. Organizers intend to attract runners from all over Greece, and local volunteer assistance is provided by groups such as the Hellenic Red Cross, Evia Runners Club, Tanktrail Cycling Club, FetesClub 4x4, Evia Rescue Team - 312, and the Manikia Project.
