Mission Mt Somers is a trail marathon around Mt Somers, designed for runners seeking a more challenging day than a road marathon. The initial section takes participants over farm tracks and through stream crossings, before the course ascends a significant climb where hiking poles are permitted and beneficial.
The halfway mark is at Woolshed Creek car park. From there, the race requires runners to continue managing their nutrition, pacing, and fatigue. The descents are technical enough to favor skilled trail runners, and some participants use this event to prepare for more demanding mountain or multisport races, rather than targeting it as their primary goal.
