In Breckenridge, the Race of the Santas sends hundreds of people dressed as Santa running down Main Street on the first weekend of December. It is a short, playful downtown race tied to the start of the holiday season, with the crowd and costumes doing more of the work than the mileage.
The run is part of the Lighting of Breckenridge, when Main Street fills with holiday lights and the town switches on about 250,000 LEDs. The same event also includes the Holiday Dog Parade, so the street gets costumed pups before the Santa dash and a full holiday-light display after dark.
