5k Monster Dash

Costumes are part of the 5k Monster Dash, a Halloween-season race in Spokane's Manito Park on the South Hill. The main event is a chip-timed 5K that starts in the morning, followed by a Kids' Fun Run about an hour later, allowing families to do both instead of choosing one. The kids' race comes in 1-mile, half-mile, and quarter-mile options, and children receive candy goodie bags at the finish. Adults can walk or run alongside children for the whole Fun Run, while many parents run the 5K first and then meet their kids for the shorter race. Bib and shirt pickup is at the Lower Manito Park Picnic Shelter. The event is in its 17th year, and its proceeds go to Active4Youth, which provides a free elementary running program for children in Spokane Public Schools, West Valley School District, and Central Valley School District.
