About
Among the Trees guides runners through Wisconsin’s Southern Kettle Moraine Forest on the historic Ice Age Trail. Both 100K and 50K distances begin at DJ Mackie Campground on the Scuppernong trails. This fall trail ultra features significant climbing: the 100K has 6,493 feet of gain, and the 50K has 2,221 feet of gain. Both races must be completed by an 11:00 PM cutoff, requiring a full day of consistent pacing for the longer distance.
The course begins on the green loop at Scuppernong, then proceeds west on the Ice Age Trail towards Emma Carlin. The 50K turnaround is at mile 16.7; the 100K continues to Whitewater, turning back at mile 34.9, where pacers may be added. Aid stations offer standard ultra fare: water, Tailwind, PB&Js, pickles, bananas, chips, and Sour Patch Kids. Finishers get wooden medals that can be branded on-site, with an option to burn their finishing time onto the back.
