The Devils Race Track Backyard Ultra

The Devils Race Track Backyard Ultra takes place at Wade Mountain Preserve, managed by the Land Trust of North Alabama. Participants begin a new 4.167-mile loop each hour, completing it before the next horn signals the start. The necessary pace is 14:24 per mile or quicker; however, pace is secondary to endurance, as the primary challenge lies in the number of hours a runner can continue completing loops. The course adheres to the standard Lazarus Lake backyard format. The initial quarter mile is on a road to allow runners to spread out before transitioning to a single-track trail loop. Once night falls, the event shifts entirely to a road loop until dawn. This event is designed for runners seeking a Big Dog’s Backyard Ultra-style challenge and for those interested in experiencing the format casually. All participants receive a shirt, those who finish get caps, and any runner completing 24 hours or 100 miles is awarded a buckle. Results will be available on Ultrasignup.
