Uptown 5k on the Runway 2026

Uptown 5K on the Runway takes runners and walkers onto the runway at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, using a strip normally reserved for planes. This is a 5K fun run/walk, open to community members of all ages, and the event is family friendly, not solely for competitive runners. Registration is free with a waiver required, and the race is presented by Heidi Schaeffer, M.D. The course is straightforward and unique: a five-kilometer route on the FXE runway at 1515 West Commercial Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale. Trustbridge Hospice Foundation and FXE use the race as a community fundraiser, encouraging participants to raise money, with an event T-shirt offered to those who reach the fundraising threshold. Over 8,000 people have participated across its first seven editions. The race combines the runway run with the Uptown 5K Village, where participants gather for refreshments and festivities before and after the 5K.
