The Höhenweg Trophy Wildschönau is an autumn trail running and hiking weekend in the Tyrolean Alps, following the Wildschönauer Höhenweg between Niederau and Schönangeralm in Auffach. It is a timed mountain event: runners and hikers traverse demanding alpine routes, with the fastest times determining the results. The program begins with a short uphill sprint, 3 kilometers from Niederau to the Markbachjoch, followed by a gathering at the Rübezahlhütte.
The longer routes continue on the Höhenweg, where trail runners can cover up to 30 kilometers of varied mountain terrain. From the Markbachjoch summit station, the course proceeds over Rosskopf, Feldalphorn, Schwaigberghorn, and Breitegggern before concluding at Schönangeralm, deep in the high valley. Hikers may enter solo or in 2-person and 3-person teams, with team results based on the time of the last member to finish. All participants must scan QR codes along the route for their time to be officially recorded, providing a practical checkpoint system on a rugged alpine course.
