Zillertaler Steinbockmarsch und Steinbocklauf

The Zillertaler Steinbockmarsch and Steinbocklauf send hikers and trail runners onto the same 30-kilometer alpine route from Ginzling in Austria’s Zillertal Alps. The hike has been held every August since 1969, and the Ibex Run now shares the day with it. Both start at the Nature Park House in the mountaineering village of Ginzling, with roughly 1,000 people choosing either the long-distance march or the faster trail run. The route heads through the Floitental, passes Tristenbachalm, climbs toward the Nördliche Mörchnerscharte, and drops into the Zemmgrund before finishing at Breitlahner. Participants have to handle 1,871 meters of climbing and 1,613 meters of descent, so the day is much more mountain outing than road race. A bus links the finish area back to the start, and if snow sits high on the ridge, the march switches to an out-and-back route from Ginzling to the Greizer Hütte. The event draws hikers and runners from Austria and abroad, with the Berliner Höhenweg area forming the high-alpine setting around the course.
