The third Burralow Bush Run at Bilpin Fruit Bowl offers children a sample of trail-race day, transforming the orchard into a cross country course. This event runs concurrently with the larger bush runs through Kurrajong Heights, Bowen Mountain, and towards Crago Observatory, allowing young participants to feel connected to the Hawkesbury trail scene. The event is described as an “homage to the original trail running event,” maintaining a local, volunteer-supported atmosphere instead of a commercial production.
The children's race highlights the local trails with a route suitable for younger runners: off the pavement, around the Fruit Bowl orchard, and concluding with a formal finish and medal. Toddlers, children, and teenagers can compete, with the youngest accompanied by an adult, fostering a family-oriented morning rather than a competitive environment. A notable aspect is that all proceeds benefit three local RFS brigades, a detail appreciated by runners long after the race.
