The In Flanders Fields Marathon takes place annually in Belgium’s Westhoek on the third Sunday of September. The full marathon begins on the market square in Diksmuide at 10:00. A half marathon is also offered, starting near the Grote Markt in Ypres around midday. This is the only officially measured marathon in the Westhoek, with its 42.195 km verified by Jones Counter. The number of entries is limited to 750 marathon runners and 500 half marathon runners.
The route crosses the protected Yser Valley, utilizing the flat polders and waterways between Diksmuide and Ypres. Marathon runners will pass locations like Tervate and Stuivekenskerke, follow stretches along the Yser, loop back toward Diksmuide, and then proceed by the Ieperlee toward Ypres. The course covers ground connected to the First World War front line, imparting a distinct historical character. Participants can also compete in five-person relay teams. A donation option for Kom op tegen Kanker is available during registration.
