Meerdaalwoud Trail is a two-day trail running event held in December, based at CultuurCentrum De Borre in Bierbeek, Belgium. Established in 2016, it now limits entries to 1,200 runners daily. The event provides a range of distances, from 11 km and 13 km routes for shorter runs to a 50 km race with 750 m of elevation gain, suitable for both casual forest runners and those seeking a longer winter challenge.
The courses primarily use wide forest paths and are described as only slightly technical, emphasizing steady pacing over difficult footing. Middle and long distance options include 18, 19, 27, 28, and 34 km courses, with elevation gains from 230 m to 430 m. GPX files are published five days before the event, and aid stations offer water, cola, fruit, chips, cake, and candy, with no disposable plastic cups. Participants must bring their own cup or bottle; longer distances also require a survival blanket, a charged phone, and 1 liter of water. Timing chips are attached to the bib, with live splits and results managed by SQM Time. Optional extras like a T-shirt, medal, and ecocup are available for purchase.
