Wizz Air Sofia Marathon

The Wizz Air Sofia Marathon is Bulgaria’s biggest running event, held in Sofia over an October weekend with the start at Alexander Batenberg Square. Runners can choose the full 42 km marathon, a 21 km half marathon, a 10 km race, a 5 km mass road run, or a two-person relay where each runner covers a half marathon. The event draws more than 10,000 people, including runners from Bulgaria and from abroad. The route begins in the heart of the capital and sends runners through Sofia’s city streets, with Alexander Nevsky Cathedral among the landmarks on the way. It is an established race with more than forty editions behind it, organized by the Sport in Leisure Time Association. The field ranges from marathoners chasing a long-distance goal to casual 5 km runners, relay teams, club runners, and visitors using the race as a reason to see the city on foot. Refreshment stations support runners on course, and the finishers receive medals.
