DU YOU KNOW HOW PAINFUL THIS WILBY? is a small, free race day at Vista Hills Public School in Waterloo, Ontario, starting at 7:00 AM with a deliberately low-key setup. Participants can choose from a 25K run, a 50K or 75K ultra composed of multiple loops, or a duathlon combining a 25K run with approximately 23K of cycling. A shorter 8K run and a sprint duathlon, featuring an 8K run plus the same bike distance, are also available.
The run begins and ends at the school, utilizing open roads instead of a closed course. Runners must be aware of traffic and run into oncoming traffic where feasible, and familiarize themselves with the route beforehand as there are no course markings beyond turnaround cones. The bike leg is a rolling loop, draft-legal, and excludes time trial bikes; riders must adhere to normal road rules and conclude before the stop sign at Wideman Road and Wilmot Line. Timing relies on Strava segment data, with manual timing offered upon request. The event is framed as a local challenge rather than a polished production, with the organizer describing it as an opportunity to “crush our legs in a diversity of ways on Wilby.”
