Steinhölzlilauf

The Steinhölzlilauf begins and ends on the track at the Liebefeld/Köniz athletics stadium, south of Bern, Switzerland. This local running event takes place on the first Sunday of Advent, offering distances from 0.4 km to 10 km. This allows children, families, casual runners, and club runners to select a suitable race. The routes incorporate the stadium, the Steinhölzli forest, and the Bern suburb of Weissenbühl. Some races consist of multiple 1.6 km forest laps. Runners will encounter a mix of natural ground and asphalt, with a short climb in the woods on the longer routes. A notable tradition occurs at the finish, where Samichlaus and Schmutzli give children a Chlausensack, a Swiss Advent treat bag.
