Starobělské Lurdy

Starobělské Lurdy is a short cross-country race in Bělský les, Ostrava, Czech Republic, held annually on the second Sunday of November. The primary course is 3.2 km, though some listings associate it with 5 km events. It begins precisely at 11:00, with runners departing in pairs every 15 seconds, creating a continuous flow through the woods rather than a single large group at the start. The route crosses the more challenging sections of Bělský les and features a brief, notably steep downhill: its stated gradient is 170%, at a 59-degree angle. Participants also pass a Stations of the Cross, contributing to the "Lurdy" designation. Entry is open to all, with 17 age categories, and the guiding principle is: “even a slow run is better than no run.” Over a thousand runners have finished, and Czech athletics rankings recognize the event as one of the nation's leading running competitions.
