The Bocholter Citylauf is an evening road race in Bocholt, located in Germany’s western Münsterland region, drawing approximately 4,000 participants annually. The event begins with young runners in a 2.5 km student race, followed by a 5 km school race, a 5 km public run, and concludes with a 10 km road race. This race has been a fixture in Bocholt for over twenty years, organized collaboratively by the local sports club DJK SF 37/30 Lowick, the city sports association, the city administration, and city marketing.
Everything centers on a certified 2.5 km loop through the city center, commencing and concluding on the Marktplatz before the historic Rathaus. The course is notably flat, featuring only eight meters of elevation change, and is officially measured by the German Athletics Association. This makes the 10 km race suitable for athletes aiming for personal bests, as well as club and recreational runners. The late afternoon into evening schedule provides a structured progression, with school races preceding the main 10 km event. Live commentators, DJs, and musical acts positioned along the route enhance the atmosphere beyond a standard city-center road race.
