The Breit race is one event in the Crosslaufserie Kreis Bernkastel-Wittlich, a three-race cross-country series held in the Bernkastel-Wittlich district of western Germany. The series includes races in Büdlich-Breit, Wintrich, and Bengel, with categories for very young children, school-age runners, juniors, and adults. In Breit, the shortest race is a 250-meter run for Bambini, while older children compete in 1000 or 1590-meter races. The adult and junior categories offer a 3180-meter middle distance and a 7150-meter long race, with a one-hour time limit for the long course.
The series scoring is straightforward and demanding: the winner in each category is the runner with the lowest total from their finishing positions across all three races. If runners have equal points, their combined time from the three races determines the ranking. Participants who complete all three events receive a gift, and the top three children and youth in each age group are awarded printed certificates on the day. Series winners receive age-group certificates and prizes, with overall winners in the middle and long distances also receiving prize money.
