Heavy24 is a 24-hour mountain bike race held at Stausee Oberrabenstein in Chemnitz, Saxony, typically during a June race weekend. Participants continuously circle the course through day and night, competing individually or in relay teams. The event attracts over 1,000 riders and thousands of visitors annually. Since its inception in 2007, it has become one of Germany’s largest 24-hour MTB races.
The lap measures 9.2 km with 142 meters of elevation gain. The difficulty lies not in one severe climb, but in the sustained off-road efforts over 24 hours. Solo riders, pairs, and teams of four, six, or eight are eligible to compete, bringing together serious racers, club riders, hobby cyclists, and groups of friends on the same circuit. Die Rennmacher are the organizers, providing side events, and have been implementing additional sustainability measures for the weekend.
