The Hockenheimring-Lauf allows runners to use the same broad asphalt spaces typically reserved for motorsport at the Hockenheimring in Baden-Württemberg. Held near the year's end, it features 10 km and 5 km races for amateur runners, alongside 1.1 km and 350 m races for children. The broader Ring Running Series also provides half marathon and marathon distances on an officially measured, record-eligible course. Its primary draw is straightforward: a flat, smooth race on a Formula 1 circuit, with lanes approximately 30 meters wide and minimal obstacles for fast running.
The course remains on the Hockenheimring’s clean asphalt, creating a sensation more akin to a timed trial than a typical urban road race. Spectators are admitted without charge, can observe runners concluding near the Formula 1 pit lane, and utilize live smartphone tracking for finish times. The finish zone typically hosts a small runners' market with food, beverages, coffee, and cake available at reasonable prices. This event has been held since 1998, and its record board indicates its appeal to swift runners: Alina Reh established the current 5 km course record as a 12-year-old, while the 10 km records are below 29 minutes for men and near 32 minutes for women.
