Subida al Castillo de Portezuelo is a November mountain-running event in Portezuelo, Spain, centered on a single concept: runners ascend towards the town’s castle. The program includes three distances: the 8 km Mini Subida, the 10 km Ruta, and the 19 km Prueba Reina, the primary event. It is a local trail race, not a standard road event, with the castle providing the series its name and focus.
The finish point is more than a hilltop landmark. Portezuelo Castle, also known as Marmionda, originates from the 12th century and transferred between León, the Templars, the Almohads, and later the Order of Alcántara before its abandonment in the 17th century. Today it exists as a consolidated ruin, accessible to visitors, featuring battlemented walls, two round towers, a barbican, a large parade ground, and a cistern. Recent events have also navigated local circumstances: one scheduled run was postponed due to a yellow weather alert, and rescheduling was made difficult by hunting seasons, holidays, elections, and other local activities.
