The event is part of the Ironman Circuit and is scheduled for mid-November, following the standard format: a 3.8 km swim, a 180 km road bike course, and a 42.195 km marathon.
The course utilizes repeated loops, simplifying the race day for participants and spectators. It consists of two 1.9 km swim loops, two 90 km bike loops, and five running loops of approximately 8.4 km each. The route combines the lakes and ponds of Kuopio-Tahko with urban areas, natural landscapes, forests, and undulating terrain, offering a varied challenge beyond a simple city race. Competitors rank it among their preferred triathlons, noting its designation as “Ironman TOP,” indicating its focus on dedicated Ironman athletes rather than short-course participants.
