La Belle Course is a village race day in Charroux, a medieval village in the Allier department, approximately 30 km from Vichy. It originated from a collaboration with Les Bougies de Charroux, aiming to encourage runners and walkers to re-explore the village’s historic streets and heritage sites. The event offers a flexible format: a 6 km walk combining food and sightseeing, a 1 km medieval race for children, a 20 km trail race, a 10 km road race, and a 10 km relay for teams of three.
The setting is integral to the event. Charroux is located in the Bourbonnais region and holds the “Plus Beaux Villages de France” designation, meaning the race is centered on the village itself, not a dedicated sports facility. The day begins with the walk in the morning, followed by children’s races and the longer events in the evening. It attracts participants seeking varied levels of exertion, including families, walkers, trail runners, road runners, and relay teams covering the same 10 km course.
