La Graveloise

La Graveloise offers riders three distance options — 40 km, 60 km, and 80 km — starting from La Rochelle on France’s Atlantic coast. This gravel cycling event takes place in late June in Charente-Maritime, within the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. It is not timed, emphasizing route selection and execution over chasing an official result. Road bikes are permitted, making the event more accessible than a gravel-specific setup. The routes feature park and nature sections near La Rochelle, with organizers hinting at rolling hills in the southwest rather than a simple seaside ride. Cyclo Rochelais 17 manages the event. This club, established in 1931, continues to organize road and gravel rides, local cycling events, trips, and support for beginners. The event reflects this club ethos: varied distances cater to competitive riders, regular cyclists, and casual participants, with refreshments provided during the rides and an emphasis on exploring the local area and French heritage. Post-ride, participants are near the Vieux-Port with its medieval towers, the Aquarium de La Rochelle, and Île de Ré, offering beaches and cycle paths approximately an hour away.
