Trail du Boël is a trail-running weekend held in Guichen and Pont-Réan, located approximately 20 km south of Rennes in Brittany. The event offers races of about 13 km, 24 km, and a 55 km route for those seeking a longer challenge. The shorter races involve significant elevation changes, with the 13 km course featuring around 300 m of elevation gain and the 24 km course around 510 m. The 55 km route includes approximately 1000 m of ascent.
The course minimizes asphalt, utilizing paths, single track, climbs to scenic viewpoints, descents alongside the Vilaine river, and sections passing historical landmarks. This event has been held for over ten years and targets dedicated trail runners, not road racers. Its commitment to low-waste practices is central to its identity: participants must bring their own cups, solid food is reserved for the finish, carpooling is promoted, reusable signage is employed, and trophies are crafted from vegetable starch. The 55 km race incorporates self-navigation, with no course markings and a GPX file provided before the event.
