About
Trail du Château Gaillard is a trail-running event in Les Andelys, Normandy, set against the backdrop of the ruined medieval fortress of Château Gaillard. It provides four distances: approximately 37 km with about 1,200 m of elevation gain, 22 km with around 700 m of climbing, 14 km with over 400 m of ascent, and a timed 12 km walk covering approximately 330 m of elevation.
The courses follow hilly paths near Les Andelys, leading participants between the castle ruins, natural landscapes, and the broader Normandy scenery. The event welcomes seasoned trail runners as well as those opting for a shorter run or walk; even the shorter distances feature significant elevation. The organizers leverage the term “gaillard,” meaning brave or sturdy, to characterize a race that incorporates climbs, challenging trails, and a historic fortress setting.
