The Triathlon d'Embrun XL begins in the calm waters of Embrun’s lake, surrounded by mountains. It is a long-distance triathlon for endurance athletes, comprising a 2,500 m swim, a 120 km bike ride, and a 30 km run.
The swim consists of two loops with an Australian exit, requiring athletes to leave the water briefly before re-entering. The bike course features 2,200 m of climbing through cols, valleys, and alpine terrain. The run is structured as three 10 km loops, incorporating varied rhythm, surfaces, and short accelerations. GPX files are available for all three disciplines, which is significant as the race challenges athletes to manage distance, elevation gain, and pacing rather than maintaining a consistent effort.
