At 7 p.m., Whitchurch Village in Cardiff closes its roads for the Cardiff 5K - Race For Victory, an annual 5K focused on racing hard on a fast town route. It is conducted under Welsh Athletics rules, with official timing, posted results, full marshalling, and a course marked to national standards. The event also hosts the Welsh 5km Championships, making it more structured than a casual fun run, but the field is divided to accommodate different paces: elite women under 16 minutes, elite men under 15 minutes, and an open race for participants from 15 minutes and slower.
The route remains on closed roads through Whitchurch, with spectators lining the streets and runners able to race, run, jog, or walk the distance. Club runners in the Welsh Road Running Championships wear club vests, Inter Area runners may wear team or national vests, and other entrants are asked to start in the race T-shirt. That shirt is the primary memento: it is a limited-edition technical top printed with the names of entrants, and the race does not provide a finisher medal. The event is in its 10th edition, and the championship races, Inter Area Match, and open field unite serious club athletes with local runners on the same evening.
