The Cateran Yomp takes teams into the Scottish wilderness near Blairgowrie, Perthshire, for a 54-mile ultra-distance march through the Cairngorm Mountains foothills. The full challenge is completed non-stop within 24 hours. Shorter 22-mile and 36-mile routes are available, along with a relay option for those preferring not to cover the full overnight distance. Hundreds of participants attend annually, with the event open to civilians, military personnel, and former military members. A minimum age of 16 applies, and there is no upper age limit.
The Yomp originates from a military training march, emphasizing teamwork from its inception. Solo participants are grouped with others. Serving soldiers completing the full 54 miles in teams of four or more within 24 hours receive the Gold Distinction Award. The event supports ABF The Soldiers' Charity, aiding soldiers, veterans, and their families. Support provided includes food and drink stations along the route, campsite access, training guidance, fundraising assistance, a technical shirt, and a medal.
