Goring On Thames provides a village start next to the river before the route descends onto the hilliest section of the Thames Path National Trail towards Whitchurch. From there, it follows the Chiltern Way through Tokers Green and Bix. The running here can remain relatively fast before the Chiltern Hills begin to demand more effort.
The more challenging middle section unfolds around Ibstone, featuring Stonor Park, Turville, and a sharp ascent past Cobstone Windmill. This climb is rewarded with spectacular scenery, provided you look up. After reaching the highest point on the course at Christmas Common (800ft), the route continues under Watlington Hill, onto the Ridgeway, and passes through Swyncombe Farm, Nuffield, Grim's Ditch, Hailey, and Blue Tin Produce before returning to Goring. This is an ultra runner's challenge, not a relaxed trail jog.
