The Four Reservoirs Ultra & Trail Run begins at Shotley Bridge, near Consett in County Durham. Runners start at 7:30am. The event provides two off-road options: a 53km ultra trail run and a 25km trail run. Both courses are set around moorland, woodland paths, and the four reservoirs that lend the race its name.
The 53km route forms a loop from Shotley Bridge, utilizing the Derwent Walk and Waskerley Way. It passes Waskerley, Smiddy Shaw, and Hisehope Reservoirs, followed by a road section through Muggleswick with views across Derwent Reservoir. The course then follows paths through Derwent Gorge and Muggleswick Woods, returning via Ebchester, Hamsterley, and the Derwent Walk line. The 25km race follows the ultra course until Rowley Station, then descends alongside the A68 towards Allensford Park, before rejoining the longer-distance runners through Ebchester, Hamsterley, and along the Derwent Walk.
