Runningmonk Midway Trail is a roughly 9-mile trail race held at Church Barn in Bishop's Castle, Shropshire, typically in late November. It was established for runners seeking a distance between a 10k and a half marathon, occupying a useful middle ground: sufficient mileage for a substantial run, but not the full commitment of 13.1 miles.
The route incorporates single-track trails, fields, woodland, and local footpaths, including parts of the Shropshire Way, Kerry Ridgeway, and Offa's Dyke. It involves an ascent of approximately 1,700 feet, presenting a varied terrain rather than a flat course. There is no cut-off time, and the event welcomes participants of all levels, from novice trail runners to seasoned athletes. The course is marked and marshalled, chip timing is provided, and finishers receive a medal and a doughnut. Dogs on leads are permitted, provided they are well-behaved, although some stiles might pose a challenge for them.
