The Loop Ultra is a 32-mile trail race within the Cambrian Mountains of Mid Wales. It begins and ends at Camp Plas, a nature retreat near Dolanog. This race has a limited field of 100 runners. The route is marked, with support runners available and a 14-hour time limit, allowing new ultrarunners to complete the distance. Canicross is permitted; dogs must be at least 12 months old, fit, and leashed at all times. Canicross participants are not eligible for trophy awards.
The course follows trails, forest tracks, and old paths towards Lake Vrynwy. It passes near the Glyndwr Way and offers views of the Shropshire Hills and southern Snowdonia. Participants require appropriate mountain gear, including waterproofs, warm clothing, hydration, emergency food, navigation tools, and a powered phone. The weekend's accommodation is a key attraction: Camp Plas provides camping, bell tents, cabins, and facilities for supporters. Friday's pre-registration includes a BBQ and drinks. Post-race activities feature food, drinks, and live local music, with optional paddle boarding, yoga, and wild swimming available throughout the weekend.
