The Tom Holmes Gala Chase starts and finishes in Coronation Park in Oughtibridge, South Yorkshire, with runners heading out from the village into Wharncliffe Woods. It is a midweek evening fell-style trail race held under UK Athletics rules, with a senior race of about 6km and 180m of climbing, plus a shorter junior chase of just under 3km with 100m of ascent.
The route climbs by road up Station Lane and Jawbone Hill before looping through the woods on compacted gravel paths and returning to the park. The senior race is open from age 16, while juniors can enter from age 11, and the event goes ahead whatever the weather. Tom Holmes founded the Chase after being inspired by a route he walked daily with his dog; he was also active in village life through the Gala and Sports Night committee and the Oughtibridge Brass Band. Hillsborough and Rivelin Running Club help support the race.
