From Woldingham School, the Woldingham Marathon proceeds directly out through the gates onto a private road, heading south through a green valley toward the North Downs Way. It offers the character of a trail run rather than a refined road race: bushes and fence lines, wooded paths, gates, open fields, and views south over Kent and Surrey with the M25 in the distance.
The route is an out-and-back, with full marathon runners completing the loop twice, allowing familiarity with each ascent on the return. Anticipate Gangers Hill, Tandridge Hill, Chalkpit Lane, The Ridge, and Slines Oaks Road, along with a brief but picturesque stretch on the Vanguard Way. Here, a hill might feel challenging but includes sections designed to aid progress to the summit. The finish is achieved in a trail running style: descend, ascend, cross fields, turn, and push back.
