Challenge Sanremo is a September race series held at Portosole in Sanremo, on the Italian Riviera. The middle-distance triathlon begins and ends next to the marina. The main race consists of a 1.9 km swim, 90 km bike, and 21.1 km run. The sprint event includes a 750 m swim, 20 km bike, and 5 km run. A SwimRun Open with a 1 km swim and 7 km run is also available, alongside children’s and junior races. Both triathlons can be completed solo or as relays, and the SwimRun can be done solo or in teams.
The 90 km bike leg is frequently discussed: it is hilly and incorporates the final descent from the Milan-Sanremo cycling race. The course scenery includes the seafront, sand, city streets, and natural areas, featuring promenades, beaches, and medieval hill villages. The Riviera climate is typically warm and consistent, suitable for a late-season race weekend. The event attracts solo triathletes, relay teams, swimRun pairs, juniors, and families, not exclusively long-course specialists.
