Gran Fondo Stelvio Santini begins in Bormio, located in Italy’s Sondrio province, sending road cyclists into the high mountains of Valtellina each June. Participants select from three challenging routes: a short option of approximately 60-64 km with over 2,000 m of climbing, a medium route exceeding 100 km with around 3,000 m, and a long route extending to about 130-157 km with more than 4,000 m of elevation gain.
All routes conclude at the summit of the Stelvio Pass, meaning even the shortest route finishes with a significant alpine ascent. The long route additionally features the Mortirolo, a climb contributing to the event’s renown. The Stelvio has featured in the Giro d’Italia nine times, and this final summit finish positions the granfondo as a cycling pilgrimage rather than a standard sportive.
