The Grand Raid Cro Magnon, or Cro, is a 104 km mountain ultratrail from Limone Piemonte, Italy, to Cap d'Ail on the French Riviera. Typically held in early June, it features approximately 5,500 m of elevation gain, making it a demanding Alpine-to-sea race rather than a road-style ultra.
The course crosses Italy and France over varied terrain: mule tracks, dirt roads, short asphalt sections, scree, snowfields, meadows, and stairways. The most challenging ascents are early at Corne de Bouc (2,453 m) and late at Cime de Baudon (1,210 m), presenting significant uphill efforts towards the finish. Race conditions are a factor, with adverse weather and heavy snow having caused cancellations previously. Marco Olmo holds the record with six consecutive victories.
